Hector McNeill letterbook, 1777.

Letterbook kept by Captain Hector McNeill, commander of the frigate Boston during the Revolutionary War, 19 May- 14 Oct. 1777. Letters pertain to cruises of the frigates Boston and Hancock, the capture of the H.M.S. Fox, and the loss of the H.M.S. Fox and frigate Hancock in an engagement with H.M.S. Rainbow, H.M.S. Flora, and H.M.S. Victor. Includes copies of letters to John Manley, William Mackay, Jonas Clark Minott, John Langdon, Gen. Charles Horatio Gates, John Brown, the Council of Massachusetts, and the Marine Committee of the Continental Congress, among others.
